Princess Elara had received almost every magnificent gift a royal daughter could imagine.

She owned jeweled crowns from distant kingdoms, magnificent dresses woven with golden thread, rare paintings, enchanted music boxes and enough gemstones to make a dragon reconsider its career.

Yet her favorite possession was none of them.

Her favorite possession was a rock.

Not a magical rock. Not an ancient royal artifact. Not even a particularly beautiful rock.

Just an enormous, extremely heavy rock.

She found it beside a mountain road as a child, decided immediately that it had a wonderful personality, and named it Pebble.

Years later, Princess Elara still refused to go anywhere important without him.

On one glorious morning, the princess decided that Pebble deserved to see the royal gardens. Servants offered carts. Knights offered horses. The king suggested, very carefully, that perhaps Pebble would be happier remaining where he was.

Elara ignored all of them.

Wearing her magnificent royal gown and favorite crown, she tied a golden rope around Pebble and began pulling.

To everyone's astonishment, the rock moved.

The castle guards stared in disbelief. Villagers stopped what they were doing. The king and queen watched with expressions somewhere between pride and complete confusion. Even the palace dog happily followed along, apparently accepting Pebble as another member of the royal household.

Elara simply smiled and continued walking.

After all, nobody leaves their best friend behind.
