The Market That Wakes After Sunset

When the last sunlight disappears behind the mountains, most villages begin closing their doors.

This one opens them.

Every evening, lanterns are lit along the old cobblestone street and the quiet village transforms into a tiny night market where humans, elves, orcs and other travelers gather beneath a spectacular star-filled sky.

The orc baker is always the first to open. His bread is famous throughout the valley—not because of some ancient magical recipe, as tourists like to believe, but because he gets up ridiculously early and refuses to sell yesterday’s loaves.

Across the street, an elegant jeweller displays tiny treasures beneath deep-red canopies. Beside her, merchants sell apples, pastries and handcrafted goods, while the strangest stall of all glows brilliant blue and violet. Here, enchanted flowers are sold that continue shining long after they have been taken home.

Nobody seems particularly impressed by the magic anymore.

They are far more interested in whether the baker still has warm bread.

Above the rooftops, a distant castle glows against the mountains while the Milky Way stretches across the heavens. Yet down here, among friends, merchants, wandering adventurers and the occasional hopeful dog waiting beside the flower stall, the greatest magic is simply another beautiful evening together.
