The Uninvited Fika Guest

Apparently, the cinnamon buns were for everyone

It was supposed to be a peaceful afternoon fika beneath the old apple tree. Coffee was poured, stories were being told, and a fresh plate of cinnamon buns had finally reached the table.

Then a large chestnut head appeared over the fence.

Everyone on the farm knew this particular horse had an extraordinary ability to recognize the sound of food being served. Before anyone could react, he had carefully stretched across the fence and selected the cinnamon bun closest to him.

The little girl thought this was wonderful. The adults were less certain. The dog, meanwhile, seemed deeply offended that the horse had discovered the trick first.

From that afternoon onward, the family learned an important countryside rule: when fika is served near the pasture, always bring one extra.
