For most of the year, the little lake separates one side of the valley from the other. But when winter arrives and the ice grows thick, something wonderful happens — the lake becomes the place where everyone meets.

Skates are brought down from attics, hockey sticks appear from old sheds, and families gather beside the shore with hot coffee and something sweet. The experienced skaters race across the ice while beginners discover that staying upright can be an adventure of its own. Even the dog refuses to miss the fun.
